The Dominica UK Association (DUKA) is gearing up for another showing at Notting Hill Carnival 2025 with its carnival band, Mas Domnik, unveiling a new theme titled Echoes of Heritage.
Mas Domnik, founded in 2005, is the cultural arm of DUKA, a UK-registered charity dedicated to promoting Dominican heritage in the diaspora. Over the years, the band has earned a reputation for its colourful and culturally rich presentations, including first-place wins in 2017 and 2019.
This year’s theme, Echoes of Heritage, aims to honour the legacy of Dominica’s ancestors while celebrating the island’s enduring cultural identity. According to DUKA, the theme blends traditional Dominican motifs with modern designs and eco-conscious materials, reflecting the past and future of Caribbean culture.
Echoes of Heritage is about celebrating who we are and where we come from,” said a DUKA representative. “It’s a tribute to the traditions that shaped and continue to guide us today.”
Costumes and T-shirt packages can be ordered on duka.org.uk/costumes for those interested in playing Mas. DUKA Mas Domnik’s road experience will feature Dominican Bouyon, Soca, and Zouk music by top DJs, including DJ Vern, Redboy, and Smoov, with PAs by Riddla and other visiting artists. The Band will also be promoting Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival and Tourism.
Alongside its visual and musical spectacle, the band plans to integrate storytelling and live performances, offering a deeper look into Dominica’s culture and history.
